Fantastic Shoot at New Gwyndegla Shooting Ground.
The biggest, best, most thrilling shoot North Wales has ever seen was held today at the new Gwyndegla shooting ground.
A 100 bird shoot set up by the well known course setter Gwyn ‘Hotshot’ Richards, set the scene for a thrilling shoot, with the best shooters from around the world flying in, to take part.
Two shooters came from overseas (Anglesey) hoping to win what will become the pinnacle of the Welsh Shooting Calendar.
Sporting and G.S.A.B.T. in the morning, a curry and Lobscows dinner cooked by the well know Michelin Starred chef Elfyn ‘Slim’ Richards, and 50 skeet in the afternoon.
The sporting had a mixture of difficult stands and nearly impossible stands that soon sorted out the wheat from the chaff, (or Chav as in Dave Jones’s case).
The Gwyn’s Special A.B.T. was a new discipline that all shooters enjoyed, and was won by Father Christmas (or W.G. as his friends know him) on a superb 8/10.
Top lady shot Sue ‘Luscious Lips’ Gaunton rose to the top of the ladies scoreboard with a fantastic 23 out of 50 which I believe is a new record for her ![]()
Top shot in the morning was Keith ‘Automatic’ Hill with a superb 43, followed by Gwyn Hotshot Richards on 40, with Ken ‘Beretta’ Griffiths and Father Christmas (W.G) on 39.
Top junior was Rhys ‘I Love Barry’ Davies on 34, well done Rhys, Barry will be very proud.
So scores in the morning were as follows:
Keith 43, Gwyn 40, Ken 39, Meic 35, Rhys 34, Robin ‘Two Left Hands’ 32, Dave ‘chav’ Jones 27, Elfyn ‘Slim’ Richards 25, Hefin 25, J.R. 23, Sue 23, Roger 23, and Barry ‘I love Rhys’ Hughes on a big fat 0.
The lunch was a veritable feast, served by the wonderful Richards Family under the stewardship of chef Elfyn ‘Slim’ Richards, our thanks to them all for their hard work
In the afternoon the skeet was severely affected by the strong wind (not from Robin’s arse this time) from behind the high house, which made for very unpredictable birds.
3 shooters managed to shoot a 44, Keith Hill, Ken Griffiths, and Gwyn Richards, followed by Robin ‘two left hands’ on 40, and Dave and Elfyn on 36.
Scores at the end of the day stood as follows:
High Gun Keith Hill on 87, Gwyn Richards 84, Ken Griffiths, 83, Father Christmas 73, Robin 72, Meic 70, Rhys 68, Dave 63, Elfyn 61, Hefin 60, J.R. 57, Sue 57, Roger 48, and bringing up the rear Barry Hughes on a 25.

Dave lea is currently the web master for the wctsa who puts scores on when he gets them, Brian Davies just sends scores to the CPSA and to Dave Lea…again if he gets them!!
Anyway it sounds like you know something we don’t so i’ll leave for now and see what happens.
Good luck with your AR qualifier on weekend Ken
Thanks tk
And by the way I’m not sandbagging, just proving what happens when you cut your shooting down by 75% and shoot with the cheapest (crappy) cartridges you can find.
Not confident for Saturday and I doubt very much if I can make Captain this year.
ah well off to Hodnet in morning for our jolly,s so won’t be hearing from me for a few days i expect there’ll be a full report on here by sunday night when i get back on how you all got on !Keith favorite is he ?
Keith is always favorite..
He’s probably shot 10 times more than I have this year which certainly helps, and he never uses crap cartridges.
He’s a bloody good shot who uses a lady’s gun
Gwyn Richards and Dennis Evans have a good chance this year as both are shooting really well.
How many Jolly’s do you get in a year tk???
Does Hodnet know what’s about to hit them?
only one it takes me the rest of the year to get over it
Probabley shoot your favorite ground on way home ken st Dials
The only thing I liked about St Dials was the beautiful young lady taking the entries
To be honest, the stands in the trees were top notch, and great fun.
Yes in fairness there’s always some good targets there and it’s only 20 mins down the road from me !
Isn’t it quiet without tk
Where’s bc and Angie?
All on my own,
I don’t want to be all on my own,
Altogether now..
At last, the International Skeet Report is on the WCTSA website..
http://www.wctsa.co.uk/sept10.html
Well done Mark and Lee..
By now you will have seen that we have lost our web master!!That was the news so how many of you would like to take up the challenge now and take over? This is going to be a real blow if no-one takes it over. The hard groundwork looks as though it has been done, so if any of you think you have the spare time, give it a shot!!
and for Kens info(and you others wondering where I’d gone)I was hiking across the Black Mountains for 7 hrs yesterday and fell into bed last night knackered!!Check out http://www.photoeclipse.co.uk for Skeet Int photos
why doesnt ken take over the web job. perfect for him.
I’m shocked!!! So Dave Lea has left the website admin?
He did a fantastic job for the WCTSA and he will be sorely missed.
It needs someone with considerable technical skill to run a website like the WCTSA’s, and someone with a lot of free time on their hands.
I have neither, all my websites (and this blog) virtually run themselves because of the relatively simple software I use.
I take it it’s a non-paid job?
I also like to tell it as it is, which wouldn’t go down well with the board
Anyway, had a great day at the All-Round qualifier today, although I will be cursing missing low 7 skeet for the rest of the year.
Report to follow.
I THINK there is a payment, but you would have to check it out.
Low 7….over the top?
Yup, over the top after trying to take it too quickly. This simple bird cost me a place in the shoot-off
You’ve done all the hard work the brain thinks…..so wrong! The hardest bird(if ur straight) is the last bird!!
doing the allround at llandegla next week if any you guys are up this way.
I’ll ask some of the others bc, we don’t usually shoot on following weekends, but it would be good for some of us to shoot a different ground once in a while.
What about you Gwyn
Strike whilst the iron is hot..
I wasn’t straight Angie, missed the complete pair on 4, daft bugger I am..
How can just fail to mention that???
Because I could
I dusted all the other targets, but as per usual I tried to shoot the low bird 6 feet out of the trap on 4, missed and had to wait for the high bird to reach the barrels.
I must try and shoot the first bird around the middle peg, but it’s difficult to change a habit of a lifetime (a bad habit)..
I was just going to say that, you shoot low bird to quickly and you’ll end up with a dead gun…nothing to do but wait for the high bird…tut tut!
