Fantastic Young Shooter show’s The Oldies the Way..
Gwyn Roberts is a very talented young DTL shooter from Gwynedd. Gwyn tried for the Welsh junior DTL team again this year, with the Home International being held in Scotland. Although Gwyn shot very well all season, he produced some exceptional scores towards the end of the DTL team qualifiers – for example on the 6th Welsh team DTL qualifier he shot 100/297 and was fourth in the overall shoot out of all the competitors.
Things just got better for Gwyn as the following weekend he was to attend the final two team qualifiers – the Welsh DTL Grand Prix/Welsh Open at Mid Wales Shooting Centre. The Sunday of the two days is the main event as this is when the various Welsh championships titles are won and lost. Gwyn rose to occasion on the Sunday and produced a score of 100/296 which was to give the title “Welsh Open DTL Junior champion 2010″, he can now add this to his other current Welsh title as in the last Welsh DTL counties final – Gwyn was shooting for Gwynedd and was crowned “Welsh Counties Junior DTL champion”.
A few days after the Grand Prix, the DTL executives confirmed that this year Gwyn was to be made Junior team captain – which is a great honour in itself. Gwyn then travelled to Mid Wales the following weekend for a ritual gathering of the new Welsh team, which allows old and new caps to come together and shoot together in their planned squad layouts before the international. Gwyn was to achieve something special that Sunday, he shot his first ever 100/300 in registered competition – the pinnacle for any DTL shooter and what a confidence booster for the coming international.
Gwyn travelled to the Home International in Scotland the following week and shot the highest score for the Welsh junior team, so was presented with the “The Wilhelm Heidrich Cup” in the international banquet.
All the above was done in the space of 4 weeks, what a remarkable month for this young Gwynedd shooter !!!
Gwyn now looks forward to the European championships in Southern Counties in August and we all wish him the very best – who knows – Gwynedd may have a European champion next month if all goes well !
My thanks to Dave Lea and DTL exec Ian Jones for the info and pics.
Latest news on Gwyn:
Mid Wales Shooting Ground at the 100 DTL Hereford and Worcester championship Gwyn was High Gun on 100/299, fantastic achievement for a young junior, well done indeed.

Its great shooting.I’m sure we will be hearing more of him in the coming months and years. I’m hoping to get a profile from him over the next couple of weeks for the web site after the European Championships which he’s shooting in.
Hope you have more success with Gwyn than you did with tk
Very shy and modest our tk..
I despair with you blokes at times!!
But what would you do without us Angie???
All that attention we give you at the shoots
The attention you lot usually get off me is when I’m chasing around after you trying to sort out all the mess you create!! Oh I love you all really!!
Come on ken lead the way lets have a profile on you!
Anyone venturing down to mid wales sunday
Come on tk, they don’t want somebody who has only done well at County Level, having started shooting at a very advanced age..
As to Mid Wales this time, if my mates are going so will I
We do want to know about all County shooters Ken,…let me send you a profile questionaire.
tk, you’ve started something now !!!
When Angie gets her teeth into something she doesn’t let go
So I’ll email it over to you then Ken! By the way, have you got a date for the A/R qualifier yet?
And if TK would like to give me his email address Ishell send one over to him as well!
go on ken, you know you want to
Yes go on ken.
waist of time doing a profile on me i,ve shot for the county twice and the world and thats it,ain’t even shot a home international .
Ok so what your saying tk is after the Home International which you’ll be in, u’ll do one then??
Ken hasn’t shot in an International but he’s going to do one for me, aren’t you Ken??
ken’s gone very quiet could be writting his profile for you angie that could take a few days.
As to the home international i’m not counting my chickens yet, thought i was gonna make it last year but failed .Think it’s even closer this year and still two shoots to go.
Sorry for the lack of response but I have no internet at home at the mo
Yes, I’m game for it, but mind you it’s not going to contain much in ‘interesting’ information.
What about bc? Very successful shooter with major competition wins under his belt.
And tk will make the international team this year. I’ll probably be at Mid Wales this Sunday to give him some unofficial coaching.
With my help he might get a magnificent 20/100.
Angie, I think Keith is setting a date for the A/R qualifier in the first week in September (first Saturday I think).
Well whats bc’s email address for me to contact him? you can send it to me via email rather than put it on this public domain
It’s official, Gwynedd All-Round Qualifier on Saturday 04-09-10 at Mid Wales.
Pity I’m away shooting in America with my mate George D.
Just out of interest can anyone turn up for your All round qualifier or is it just for Gwynedd shooters ?
Could be a mistake there Ken 04-08-10 is a wednesday.
Old age don,t come alone
should have gone to specsavers ken,
it’s on 4/9/10
you two are getting senile!!!!
Look again and you will see 4/9/10..
tk, please come along, you’ll be most welcome..
And it will give us a good laugh
gwyns back. the crazy gang are in the building
is he awake????
Is who awake????
Are you joining those two daft buggers bc?
If your too broke to shoot Ken, how come you can go to America??Your county needs you!
TK you can turn up and shoot and your score will get registered…hope your planning on doing the Gwent one as well
YES i was gonna try the Gwent but thought it would be nice to have a practise first, only shot AR once before!
You’ll love it…its a great day at the final! Its just a shame I never get to shoot it
Angie my dear, I’m a top line sponsered shooter getting 50,000 cartridges free a year and unlimited coaching with the best coaches in the world (including our very own BC).
Why would I give all that up to shoot with lowly County Shooters
And pigs might fly..
What happened to you ken thought you were
coming down to give me some coaching on sunday!
Could have done with it .
I wish I could have been there
My back had been bad all week and by Saturday I could hardly walk..
Today I had to go and see the doc whose given me anti-inflammatory tablets and strong pain killers.
How did it go with you young man?
In the 80s I hope
NO picked my new DT 10 up friday so thought I’d use that (in at the deep end)thought it was a tad low in the stock but thought it wouldn’t make that much difference shot a 78 but realised after i was lifting my head off the stock.
NOT being one to give up easily i taped about 5-6 mm on the stock and had a re-entry shot 88 and i never usually shoot aswell on a re-entry
A tip for bad back aswell ken try putting your wallet in your other pocket all that weight on one side’s probabley not helping
Shame you weren’t able to shoot the new gun before Sunday so you could see what the stock was like….but that is what a woman would do anyway!!
Bloody good scoring tk
I’d be over the moon with a 78!!!
As to the tip, and empty wallet weights about the same as a women’s brain, next to nothing
Oih Griffiths!! I’m still here you know!!!
Less of the insults and get on with your profile!!
How are you in the team list TK, any closer to getting in the team?
YES thinking logically (like a woman would )should have practiced with it first or shot my old gun till i’d got used to it.
78 was nowhere near enough mathew rees put a 93 in luckily for me, so there was very little movement on the team placings and there’s alway’s next sunday at st Dials
Think i’m lying in 9 th place at the moment on 21 points with 9 to drop!
Just found out that Keith shot an impressive 83
He needs a reasonable score at St Dials and he should make the team. Gwynedd are proud of him.
Yes it’s close this year wouldn’t be suprised if st Dials ends up in a shoot off for the final few places just hope i’m not in it
I can see the headlines:
‘Tony King and Keith Hill battle it out for the last place in the team’.
Keith’s extra coaching from Gwynedd’s own top gun Ken Griffiths wins him the day..
Hard luck tk
Does that mean your coming down to st Dials then ken ?
You’ll be lucky if he gets out of the chair!! Fingers crossed then for you TK and of course Keith
I’m hoping to be at St Dials, although it’s a long bloody way from my home.
Can’t remember if I’ve ever shot there before though (memory going)…
Are Gogs allowed on the shooting ground?
Dare i ask what a gog is?
