Fantastic Young Shooter show’s The Oldies the Way..
Gwyn Roberts is a very talented young DTL shooter from Gwynedd. Gwyn tried for the Welsh junior DTL team again this year, with the Home International being held in Scotland. Although Gwyn shot very well all season, he produced some exceptional scores towards the end of the DTL team qualifiers – for example on the 6th Welsh team DTL qualifier he shot 100/297 and was fourth in the overall shoot out of all the competitors.
Things just got better for Gwyn as the following weekend he was to attend the final two team qualifiers – the Welsh DTL Grand Prix/Welsh Open at Mid Wales Shooting Centre. The Sunday of the two days is the main event as this is when the various Welsh championships titles are won and lost. Gwyn rose to occasion on the Sunday and produced a score of 100/296 which was to give the title “Welsh Open DTL Junior champion 2010″, he can now add this to his other current Welsh title as in the last Welsh DTL counties final – Gwyn was shooting for Gwynedd and was crowned “Welsh Counties Junior DTL champion”.
A few days after the Grand Prix, the DTL executives confirmed that this year Gwyn was to be made Junior team captain – which is a great honour in itself. Gwyn then travelled to Mid Wales the following weekend for a ritual gathering of the new Welsh team, which allows old and new caps to come together and shoot together in their planned squad layouts before the international. Gwyn was to achieve something special that Sunday, he shot his first ever 100/300 in registered competition – the pinnacle for any DTL shooter and what a confidence booster for the coming international.
Gwyn travelled to the Home International in Scotland the following week and shot the highest score for the Welsh junior team, so was presented with the “The Wilhelm Heidrich Cup” in the international banquet.
All the above was done in the space of 4 weeks, what a remarkable month for this young Gwynedd shooter !!!
Gwyn now looks forward to the European championships in Southern Counties in August and we all wish him the very best – who knows – Gwynedd may have a European champion next month if all goes well !
My thanks to Dave Lea and DTL exec Ian Jones for the info and pics.
Latest news on Gwyn:
Mid Wales Shooting Ground at the 100 DTL Hereford and Worcester championship Gwyn was High Gun on 100/299, fantastic achievement for a young junior, well done indeed.

Is it Geriatic old gwynedd shooters?
Gogs are People from the Gogledd (North).
We are far superior to Hwntws from the South
Probably best not! Trouble is we let them come down here and then we escort them back just to make sure they go!!
Armed lady escort
We are so honoured !!!
Thats right…don’t mess with lady with gun!!:)
I’ve seen your shooting Angie, were quite safe
Will you be at St Dials on Sunday?
Just had a phone call from Dennis (from Bala) telling me that Eley Superbs are £185 a thousand
now..
How can ordinary people ever afford prices like this????
no, going to Cheddar to shoot some skeet. This sport is seriously only going to be be affordable to the wealthy which aint me!!Don’t these cartridge people, just like the grounds realise that at this rate they are going to be either laying off staff or closing down??
Just had interesting email from a well known DTL shooter saying he thinks Gwent and Mid Glam are going to find it hard to make up county teams now due to few new shooters coming into the sport and there are too many Internationals trying to get in. Surely thats going to be the same for all the disciplines…so my question is ‘What do we do to keep the county shoots/finals alive?’
I presume it,s the same in all the disiplines only so many internationals allowed per county team (it,s two in sporting)
There are about seven or eight internationals who could shoot for Gwent sporting but only two are allowed so even we could be short next year surely this rule could be scrapped
In the 17 years I’ve shot for Gwynedd in sporting, skeet, and all-round, I can only remember one international shooter (apart from a few we’ve borrowed) in the sporting team.
If one County had 8 internationals competing against counties with non, then it no longer is a shoot for the grass roots shooter.
Gwynedd know they are never going to win anything major, but we go there to compete against each other and to have fun.
If tk can’t make his own team, he can shoot for us
Shooting a competition about £35, 100 cartridges around £18, Travelling and food say £40, (make-up tk only £50), it’s a lot of money for a days shooting, especially if your one of the many who never win anything.
IT,s not all about winning ken it,s the taking part that counts
And if i don,t make the Gwent team and your still taking in waif and strays i,ll join you.
Mind you tk we’re very fussy in Gwynedd, we stick to a strict dress code, so you can’t wear your feminine frilly underwear whilst shooting for us
Fussy, fussy….count yourself lucky I even get you shooters to make up your team!!But seriously we do have some problems in this dept and it would be shame if it folded. I know what you are both saying about the number of Internationals and I personally agree with Ken(sorry TK)It is meant to be for grass root shooters and not Internationals…they have their own competition!
‘Waifs and strays’ I love it!!Sounds like a dogs home!!
What about reducing the time about International status from 4 yrs to 2yrs?
Yes i can see your point it would be like shooting international qualifiers all over again!
Shame about the underwear rule Ken don,t know whether i,ll bother shooting for you now ;(-
No no tk, we’ll allow you to shoot if you buy us all a Mid Wales breakfast
15 shooters at £4.50 a go, nothing to a man of means like you.
By the way, Angie sent me a picture of her new uniform!!!! Boy oh boy it leaves nothing to the imagination
You havent sent that around, have you Ken??That was meant to be under wraps until the A/R Final!
Think of all those elderly gentlemen at the All-Round Angie, and all the heart attacks waiting to happen
People like Glyn and Keith need to keep their blood pressure down.
Exactly, I cant be responsible for that!!
Are you gogs home yet ?
What did you think of st dials
Who won????
TK did you get in???
Did Keith make it??? oh the suspence is killing me!!!!
NO keith didn,t make it.
junior luke llewellen won on 92 i shot 86 which still leaves me still in 9 th position.
There was a three man shoot off for last place as all three were tied on 25.
Well done to you then TK and unlucky Keith, I’m sure he’ll be back next year. All the best shooters come from down this way ie Luke!!Prodigy of Martin Myers is our Luke.
Is it right ken that you gave keith a whooping yesterday
I wish
I shot a very average 66 compared to Keith’s 77 and Glyn’s 78 (at least I beat Gwyn’s 61
)
I wasn’t too disappointed when considering how little I’ve shot this year.
Mostly very nice birds at what could be a very good ground.
Trap breakdowns and the dire ‘clubhouse, let the place down.
More flies than our local dump made things very uncomfortable at times.
I don’t think it’s up to the mark of hosting Welsh Qualifiers when you compare it with Mid Wales, SW2000, and Griffin Lloyd.
And a big congratulations at making the Welsh Team tk, thoroughly deserved
Keith’s going to have another go at the sporting next year, along with a go at the skeet. If funds allow, Gwyn and I will be joining him at the skeet.
The 3 musketeers strike again
There must be a mistake on the web page then because they’ve got keith down for 58 not 77
Is this another job for me to sort out??
And I actually hit a 95, come on Angie sort it out
I didn’t ask you your age ken
I thought it was on the wctsa web site….so no can do, sorry
No it’s on the grounds own web site hartevents.org-
My age indeed, you young whipper-snappers need a good thrashing.
And I thought women could do anything !!!!
You never know, by the time it gets to the Assoc web site, it might have been corrected, but I shall keep an eye on it.
Keith suspects that Angie has a soft spot for him
I’m beginning to think he’s right
daft question for some i dare say but is this the ground that nigel hart runs.
Yes st Dials is nigels ground
Ken…behave!
I admit, I love him
Its a ground where the owner puts on Welsh qualifiers and then shoots them himself…..is that fair?
I’d call it a good way of making the team.
Having shot the targets thousands of times must give an advantage.
I thought the basic facilities at the ground, let the place down badly..
If your paying the same entry fee as somewhere like Mid Wales or SW2000 (£35 per 100) You expect similar facilities.
I cant comment on the place as Ive never been there but I agree with you Ken, how can they justify the cost??
I guess Sporting shoots are expensive with the need to have a referee on each stand.
To think it was the last qualifier, there weren’t all that many shooters there.
Just re-read your previous post Angie, so you admit it you brazen huzzy
How the hell did you do that???
Your ever so clever Ken
Whatever did I see in that Keith!!!!
Didnt know we had so many qualified refs in Wales??
