Fantastic Young Shooter show’s The Oldies the Way..
Gwyn Roberts is a very talented young DTL shooter from Gwynedd. Gwyn tried for the Welsh junior DTL team again this year, with the Home International being held in Scotland. Although Gwyn shot very well all season, he produced some exceptional scores towards the end of the DTL team qualifiers – for example on the 6th Welsh team DTL qualifier he shot 100/297 and was fourth in the overall shoot out of all the competitors.
Things just got better for Gwyn as the following weekend he was to attend the final two team qualifiers – the Welsh DTL Grand Prix/Welsh Open at Mid Wales Shooting Centre. The Sunday of the two days is the main event as this is when the various Welsh championships titles are won and lost. Gwyn rose to occasion on the Sunday and produced a score of 100/296 which was to give the title “Welsh Open DTL Junior champion 2010″, he can now add this to his other current Welsh title as in the last Welsh DTL counties final – Gwyn was shooting for Gwynedd and was crowned “Welsh Counties Junior DTL champion”.
A few days after the Grand Prix, the DTL executives confirmed that this year Gwyn was to be made Junior team captain – which is a great honour in itself. Gwyn then travelled to Mid Wales the following weekend for a ritual gathering of the new Welsh team, which allows old and new caps to come together and shoot together in their planned squad layouts before the international. Gwyn was to achieve something special that Sunday, he shot his first ever 100/300 in registered competition – the pinnacle for any DTL shooter and what a confidence booster for the coming international.
Gwyn travelled to the Home International in Scotland the following week and shot the highest score for the Welsh junior team, so was presented with the “The Wilhelm Heidrich Cup” in the international banquet.
All the above was done in the space of 4 weeks, what a remarkable month for this young Gwynedd shooter !!!
Gwyn now looks forward to the European championships in Southern Counties in August and we all wish him the very best – who knows – Gwynedd may have a European champion next month if all goes well !
My thanks to Dave Lea and DTL exec Ian Jones for the info and pics.
Latest news on Gwyn:
Mid Wales Shooting Ground at the 100 DTL Hereford and Worcester championship Gwyn was High Gun on 100/299, fantastic achievement for a young junior, well done indeed.

Has anybody seen the new name of Llandegla……FauxDegla….cringe worthy name or what???
I’d say none were qualified refs, just ordinary people with a basic knowledge of the rules.
Yes it’s a daft name, but if the new owner is willing to spend tens of thousands on the ground, I guess he has the right to name it after himself.
I’d prefer something like GoodFaux Shooting Ground..
interesting guy is the new owner mike. google his name and see what you find????????????????????????????????????
not a bad lad actually and has some good plans for the ground so watch this space.
might see some sporting qualifiers at fauxdegla next year then might we!
Sorry tk, your not allowed up North
Mike Faux has got some history, I wonder if he’s looking to employ an elderly bodyguard…
I,ve got passport and we did let you venture down south last week!
not that elderly ken
Has Ken actually found his way back home from being allowed down South??? Good luck to Mike especially as he apparently lets juniors shoot for free…or it could be half price….cant remember now!! But his shooting is cheaper than anywhere else so we need to show some support!!
I’ve been trying to get Keith, Glyn, Gwyn and Co. to come to Fauxdegla, but so far I’ve been fighting a losing battle.
Any ground that keeps it’s prices down should be supported by us all…
Angie, I’m shocked at your comment on the previous page!!!
Didn’t know you cared
I probably don’t….but not sure what the comment was!!
Click on the older comments link and you will see
I pity Keith, you could have let him down gently..
bc, where have you been?
You and tk seem to be shooting comps every other day..
Join the WCTSA so you can shoot the All-Round with us..
not shot for 3 weeks now. hopefully will do the ‘fauxdegla’ one at end of month. would only show you up if i shot with you again ken:)
Oh your talking about me and Keith….well you started it!!Thought TK was a member??And if bc can save Gwynedd at the A/R and pull out a blinder at the final, then he should def join the WCTSA!! Could even possibley move Gwynedd up a couple a places to 3rd this yr!
If anyone shot against Ken, it would show him up!!
A couple of years ago Gwynedd came third, a couple of points behind 2nd place.
With some of the other members taking skeet seriously next year, we will be competing for first place at the skeet final as well, along with our two adopted shooters, bc and tk.
I’m aiming for the captains cup at the All-Round this year after missing out by a couple of points so many times, including last year.
But first I need to be high gun at the qualifier, a tall task considering how little I’ve shot these last few months.
This Sunday is the first Gwynedd DTL qualifier at Fauxdegla..
Considering having a go as it’s only 50 birds
Go for it Ken! I’m expecting great things from Gwynedd this year at the A/R..you’ve been so close. Skeet next yr will be a toughie…there are some strong shooters but its always a great thing to see new shooters coming thro and they will be warmly welcomed. They are a great set of lads/girls, a small group of maybe only 40+ but a good ‘family’!
Were struggling already to get people to shoot the All-Round and I don’t think we’ll have anything like a full team.
I expect Keith, Dennis, and Gwyn to do really well, and Glyn has a good chance of winning the veterans if he can keep his head.
No ladies again this year, although we do have a very good Colt and Junior in Sion and Rhys.
wheres the allround at. local like???
just a quick question how many internationals are allowed in the AR team because there are 4 different disiplines ?
International status only applies to the discipline being shot ie Sporting int are NOT classified as skeet int and vice versa. As there are no int shot in the a/r, technically there can be 10 in the senior side!!Just because I can shoot skeet and do so as an Int does not make me a good shot at DTL or ABT which I can assure you it doesn’t!!
Thanks for that Angie thought i was gonna have to ask kenneth if i could join his team again!
bc our County Qualifier is at the same place as the final, Mid Wales Shooting Ground.
My favorite place.
The qualifer’s on 04/09/10, a Saturday, and your welcome to join us along with tk.
Have you seen Angie shoot ABT, poetry in motion (swear words actually)..
tk, if you ask ‘Kenneth’ your not going to get a reply..
The name’s KEN
It would be the highlight of your career shooting for Gwynedd
Excuse me Ken…..have you actually seen me shoot ABT?? I shoot it fine until I start thinking about it!! Wish I could have a go. Don’t worry Ken, i’m sure I’ll be able to fine Gwynedd some spare shooters(at a cost!!)
Why don’t you join us for our qualifier, it would give you a chance of showing us how to shoot properly
We would look after you as only Gwynedd can..
Watch for Glyn’s wandering hands though..
sorry can,t make your AR qualifier, shooting at hodnet that weekend, pity i was looking forward to it.
I’m shocked, how can Hodnet compare with shooting our qualifier!!!
WE needed someone of your calibre to show us how it’s really done…
wheres the support for Welsh County shooting..I bet theres a big high gun prize???
I’d love to shoot for anyone but cant be seen to favour any particular County…sorry. Plus theres always got to be someone around in case of a problem…and with that many men there, theres bound to be one!!
If Hodnets on, that could mean that some of the big shooters from Powys ie Dorian, Pete and Chris may be going there which will give the other Counties a real chance!!
He’s talking about the weekend of our qualifier Angie, not the weekend of the final
No no no, I thought you might like to shoot with us for fun, not to join the team..
No there,s about 25 of us going we booked it 6 months ago for our annual jolly boy,s outing and piss up.
we go somewhere different every year for 2 days (fri and sat) then shoot another ground on way home on the sunday so no prize money just a good laugh and a trophey. If any of you would like to join us you,d be more than welcome .
That sounds like real good fun, pity you all live so far away..
WE couldn’t ‘not shoot’ the qualifier just to go on a piss up though.
We’re loyal to the county team, and to our very own hard working Counties queen.
Is that me??
Looks like TK will have to try and get in the Gwent team then!
Yes i,ll try for the Gwent first, failing that i,ll try my old mate ken to see if he,s got any spaces in his team.
How many people make up the AR team anyway.
Yeah but i thought you werent going to be there for the one and only qualifier!! 10seniors, same as the other disciplines
And Ken doesnt have any mates…..just acquaintances and even they don’t like to admit it!!
Only joking Ken….love you really!!
Thanks Angie, just after I called you our queen
Went to our local skeet shoot today for the first time in 3 months and no one turned up.
Phoned another member who told me that it was the same last month when he turned up.
AS chairman of the Club I’ve decided to wind things up, as we have had no support whatsoever over the last year from Gwynedd shooters.
It will be another club gone forever.
We might as well sell our guns and take up darts.
Grounds are folding every month, and even if you do want to try and open one(as a few of us down here do)you then have a major problem trying to find land far enough away from houses etc because of noise problems
Thing is, we charge £12 a year membership and £2.50 per round of skeet.
It has to be the cheapest shoot in the whole of Wales and the only skeet shoot ‘open to all’ in Gwynedd.
Yet local shooters complain that there aren’t enough shoots in the county
How bonkers is that!!!
I wish I lived up there with you lot!!£2.50 a round…down here that would only get me to station stand 3!!
At that price i,d take up skeet myself!
From this small charge, we paid the bills, bought the clays, and kept the club going for the last 15 years.
Yet we have no support whatsoever..
It’s enough to make you give up altogether
wish we had that down here it would be ideal for starting youngsters off got 2 boys myself which are coming up to shooting age but it,s expensive at 25 pence per clay plus cartridges,
worse still my mrs wants to give it a try aswell.
Think it should be a men only sport
We used to charge juniors £1.25 per 25.
I think in the last 10 years, we only had two or three join.
You, the two kids, and the MRS, all shooting..
Are you a millionaire or something tk????
NO it,s only me shooting at the moment though the kids do come crow and pigeon shooting which only costs me the cartridges.
If they all start shooting i,ll have to get a part time job in the evenings as a stripper or something!
