2nd Gwynedd Skeet and Sporting Qualifiers, Dyfi Valley 28-02-10
Skeet.
We arrived at Dovey Valley in glorious sunshine, with no sign of the promised heavy rain.
After a hearty breakfast the first squad headed down to the skeet range, whilst the other two squads shot the sporting layout.
The skeet proved to be very problematic for the first squad with the low bird having a one to two second delay, which made it virtually impossible to shoot the pairs on stations 4,6, and 7.
It was strange calling for the bird and to see the high bird sailing past before the low bird left the low house. After the round the referee found that the newly charged battery was a duff and duly replaced it for the following rounds.
For those of you who have shot the Skeet at Dovey Valley, you will know that it is probably one of the hardest layouts in the country with a background that makes it extremely hard to pick up and follow the line of the bird. This reflected in the scores with most people shooting far below their usual average.
The exception to this were Gwyn Richards and Keith Hill, who shot a 46 and 45 respectively, and the 46 was enough for Gwyn to win the Captaincy this year following his high gun score at the first qualifier. Well done Gwyn, now you owe us all a pint (shandy for me of course).
Skeet top ten Scores were as follows:
Gwyn Richards 46
Keith Hill 45
Bob Carter 44
Elgan Pugh 43
Glyn Jones 42
Gerallt Jones 42
Ken Griffiths 41
Dennis Evans 41
Sion Evans 40
Anthony Lowe 40
Top 5 positions after the first 2 qualifiers are:
1/ Gwyn Richards (0), (High Gun 1st and 2nd Qualifiers)
2/ Keith Hill (+4)
3/ Elgan Pugh (+5)
4/ Ken Griffiths (+6)
5/Glyn Jones (+7)
Sporting.
The Sporting layout was well though out, with a good mixture of targets to test even the best shot.
50 birds over 7 stands using all the fantastic landscape that Dovey is renowned for.
At the end the scores reflected the testing targets with many shooters going home disappointed.
Well done to Sion Evans our one and only colt, who finished on a fantastic score of 35 once again beating his dad by 7 whole birds.
Sporting top ten scores were as follows:
Ken Griffiths 43
Keith Hill 40
Gwyn Richards 40

Guess what boys??? Dovey haven’t joined the Assoc!!
If that’s the case, then Gwynedd won’t have a team.
Keith put the fixtures on the WCTSA website many weeks ago, yet no one pointed out that Dovey weren’t associated.
It cost me a good £80 to shoot at Dovey with the cost of cartridges, travel, food, and the £30 entrance fee.
This means there’s not a single shooting ground in North wales associated to the WCTSA.
Most of us can’t afford to travel down South to shoot as even Mid Wales is a 170 mile round trip for most of us.
i was with keith at dovey valley when he booked the qualifier, he asked them if they were members of the wctsa and they said yes,
the date was published on the wctsa site weeks ago and they dident tell us they wern’t members
gwynedd had 16 shooters at the qualifier,
can the wctsa afford to lose that many members
Boys I’m working on it. I’m onto it with Brian Davies and the m/ship secretary. Hope to get this sorted very soon. My apologies for getting everyone over-excited!
Dyfi Valley is listed as Club 38 on the Club Membership Page. There’s nothing to indicate that the Club has not paid their due’s for 2010.
Surely any Club that hadn’t paid by the end of January should have been removed off the page.
We have to go by what the Club (and website) tell us.
I truly hope that Brian Davies and the membership secretary will see this, and will let the scores stand. The WCTSA will get their levy money in any case.
