Has the Current Economic Climate Affected Your Shooting?
Will it end up being a sport exclusively for the rich?

My blog gets around a hundred visitors a day yet no shooters from the South have left a comment or sent me any info on shoots etc. At this rate I will have to change the name to clayshootinggwynedd.com

The first of what will be an annual North Wales verses South Wales national skeet competition was held at Mid Wales Shooting Centre on February 14th and was a tremendous success.

Barrel length seem to be getting longer and longer, is it a fad or does it truly make a difference?
My beloved Beretta has the standard 30″ barrels and I use it to shoot everything from skeet to ABT and whilst the scores are only average, I doubt if changing to longer barrels would make any real difference to my scores.
Some shooters change guns and barrel length on a monthly basis trying to find that magic combination that will dramatically improve their shooting abilities.
Are they kidding themselves, and shouldn’t they concentrate more on gunfit, cartridge selection, shooting lessons, etc?

Whilst we’ll all agree that the price of cartridges have gone up a great deal, and has to be a big factor when buying new supplies, do you still buy your usual favourites?
As much as I think that Eley Superbs are hmmmm superb
, I tend to buy what I can afford these days just to keep me shooting fairly regularly. Last weekend I bought a 1000 SMI Smini 71/2s for £128 at Mid Wales, which is a great price if they’re any good.
Has anyone used these before, and if you have, how were they?

Whilst I enjoy shooting DTL and ABT every now and again, my main passions are Skeet and sporting (in that order).
It seems to me that the great majority of trap shooters rarely shoot anything else (I might be wrong, and I’m sure you’ll tell me if I am). Is it because your truly dedicated to those disciplines, or is it because you’ve tried and struggled with other disciplines?
I know to be good at anything needs true dedication, but does the overwhelming need to get that elusive 100/300 at DTL deter you from shooting anything else?

My favourite ground is Mid Wales Shooting Centre at Trefeglwys, Near Caersws, Powys.
A warm friendly welcome is always assured and the facilities are superb for whatever discipline you prefer to shoot. Shooting facilities which includes 16 Trap Layouts, 4 Skeet layouts and 18 Sporting Stands set in 300 acres of beautiful countryside.
Fantastic food is served in the magnificent clubhouse by Rachel and her staff, whilst Rita and Yvonne do a great job of running the extremely busy office.
The ground is Run by Arthur, Rita, Jonathan and Liza, and their very experienced staff who can never do enough to make their customers happy.
Although it’s a 170 mile round journey, I always look forward to my Mid Wales outings

My first ever post on my brand new Blog about Clay Pigeon Shooting in Wales.
Please join in and make this a happy space.
Just tell us which discipline you prefer and why?
My favourite is skeet followed by sporting.
To me, skeet is a great mixture of all types of target your likely to encounter on a shooting ground, but without needing masses of open space to build a layout. It’s also a great discipline for a beginner to start with, as they get to experience going away, quartering , crossers, and driven, in a single round.
Most people can get a good score at skeet but very few can hit that magic 100 straight. I’ve been close a few times but as yet it evades me, I’m hoping this will be the year
